Coolant Supply System Design

MDA designed this water/glass slurry handling and manufacturing process supply system for a glass manufacturing company. The water/coolant is supplied to a glass grinding process. The resulting water/glass slurry is recovered from the manufacturing process and pumped to a slurry holding tank. This holding tank is continuously recirculated by diaphragm pumps. The slurry from the holding tank is transferred to a centrifuge where the glass particles are removed and the processed water is then pumped to the manufacturing process reservoir. From this reservoir, the water is pumped to the manufacturing process, reused, and the cycle repeats. MDA designed, specified equipment, documented, and managed installation of the system.

Orifice Meter System Design

MDA specified orifice meters for the test facility of a manufacturer of burners, flares, and incinerators. Five metering devices are configured in parallel providing the option of running up to five different gases/fuels simultaneously in order to create a mixture that simulates the molecular weight and heat release of the fuel used in application. We provided piping and instrumentation diagrams (P & ID's), bill of materials (BOM), component pricing, and vendor information. Additionally, we created a VBA driven Excel spreadsheet that is used to size the orifice plates for the meters at the required flow rates. This spreadsheet also generates a customer report showing all flow element calculations and a plot of Heat Release vs Flow Rate for the burner being tested. The spreadshet uses ASME equations and those from R.W. Miller for accurate orifice plate sizing and flow calculation. Proprietary industry calculations are performed for heat release and the specific combination of gases/fuels needed to simulate the customer fuel's heat release and molecular weight.

Tank & Compressor Sizing

MDA specified this 100 [ HP ] rotary screw industrial air compressor and 7,500 [ gallon ] blowdown tank for an aviation MRO facility. The system is designed to support a testing operation performed by the facility which requires 100 [ lbm / min ] mass flow rate for 8 [ min ]. The maximum alowed recovery time for the tank to refill with air is 90 [ min ]. We provided air compressor and tank specifications, supplier information and quotation, and piping and instrumentation drawings for the installation.

Oxygen Test Stand Design

MDA designed and had this oxygen test stand manufactured for an aviation MRO facility. After manufacture was complete, we delivered the test stand to our client together with drawings, BOM, spare parts list, and operator's manual.

Flow Measurement System Design

A thorough understanding of the working fluid and process is required for selecting the appropriate measurement instrument. We are experts in flow measurement and can help you select the proper device for your measurement needs. Pumps & Piping Systems Design

MDA has experience in many types of process piping and pumping systems design. For large distribution and high pressure systems, we use Caesar for pipe stress analyses and our in-house proprietary program for water hammer and cavitation analyses. The services we provide are:
